eBearings Bearings for electric vehicles project (VE2/19)
Smart bearings with active behavior, the result of the collaboration between the Fersa Group and the ITANNOVA technology center
Within the framework of the call for subsidies to carry out business projects in Aragon related to the development of the electric vehicle, approved by order of May 13, 2019, the R&D project called eBearings Bearings for the electric vehicle (VE2/19) has been completed through a collaboration between the Fersa Group and the ITAINNOVA technology center.
The project has been developed during 2019, 2020 and 2021, and has received funding from the Department of Economy, Planning and Employment of Aragon, which has been the key to achieving the established objectives.
The scientific-technical objective of the eBearings project was the development of a new range of bearings for electric propulsion vehicles and the modernization and digitalization of FERSA's production and logistics processes, necessary for the proper launch of the manufacture of these parts.
Therefore, project aims to develop new designs and the use of alternative materials to steel, as well as the investigation of new mechatronic concepts such as embedded sensorization and on-board electronics, signal processing, communication protocols, energy harvesting, etc. that can be incorporated into the bearings to provide them with some intelligence and active behavior during operation.
Thus, a sensorized wheel module demonstrator with the following characteristics has been developed:
- High load capacity with a lower degree of friction
- Compact bearing design
- Weight reduction
- Measurement and recording of variables such as temperature, speed and load
The eBearing Bearings for electric vehicles project project is the result of the joint efforts of Fersa and ITAINNOVA.
